Top 13 Favorite Albums of 2013 #7 - Overnight by Parachute
Parachute has always been a solid band that puts out solid music, so I naturally assumed that their new album was probably going to be pretty good. However, to say that Overnight exceeded my expectations would be a not just gross but disgusting understatement. The single, “Can’t Help,” alone was already three minutes of soulful pop rock perfection with Will Anderson’s silky vocals crooning out playfully direct lyrics. The rest of the album follows suit, showcasing Parachute’s signature R&B tinted sound that they have evolved to the point of perfection at this point. Songs like “Didn’t See it Coming” definitely play up those soulful and Motown type of influences. Meanwhile, songs like “The Other Side” and “Disappear” show the lighter soft rock side of Parachute that they are equally as skilled with. However, the most impressive songs hands down are “Overnight” and “Higher” which elevate their sound to an anthemic rock scale. You can tell that Parachute really went all in with those songs especially in the choruses which feel almost cathartic. It’s always a pleasure with Parachute and they just keep getting better.
