What a Time to Be "Alive": New Single From UK Natives, Secret Company

I have never met a single member of Secret Company. I don’t know their lives or their stories. They are four men from the UK; and I am American, born and raised. We are conventionally strangers. Yet, as I sat here in my Philadelphia apartment listening to their latest single, “Alive”, there was a smile on my face that I typically save for old friends and California homecomings. That familiar smile has been there ever since Secret Company first caught my attention with a teaser of their song, “Fever of Love”. Now we are here, over three years later. Talking about their latest single from their forthcoming debut album, The World Lit Up and Filled with Colour.

In so many ways, “Alive” feels like a testament to the last few years – filled with days of hard work, dedication and uncertainty. From the very start, “Alive” barrels into the soul. Calling to a spirit of restless determination, the surging guitars and drums that support singer Scott Revel’s pleading chorus filter through my clouded thoughts. In the mental clearing that “Alive” creates, I am captured by an earnest appreciation for every moment of struggle and every flicker of happiness that life has to offer.

In three minutes, Secret Company manages to inspire a grounded sense of optimism that makes living that much easier. There is an effervescent heart beating within “Alive” that cannot be forgotten even after the final synths fade. That heart is what first drew me into Secret Company’s music over three years ago and it bleeds into all they do. 

I don’t know exactly what the members of Secret Company have been through in the years that I have followed their career. I can only imagine the highs and lows of life that have shaped the songs they have written and the shows they have played. What I do know is that in less than 2 months, Secret Company will release their debut album – an album I have waited years to hear and they have spent years perfecting. Oh, what a time to be alive!
