Sonic Street Style with Jess Glynne's "No Rights No Wrongs"
I woke up this morning with a song in my mind – Jess Glynne’s “No Rights No Wrongs.” In bed, I let the song play on my phone a couple times. Then, I let Glynne’s words steer the course of my day. I chose my clothes based on the track’s breezy rhythms, informed by the soft yet strong message and vocal delivery. A pale beige sweater and earthy green overcoat suited Glynne’s determinedly humbled hook, which reminds listeners that life is “not gonna be, not gonna be easy.”
I walked out the door and down the street with a reassured smile because that moment – that everyday moment – felt like home. I don’t think many artists fill me with the content yet vivacious joy that Glynne does. There’s an irresistible purity surfaced in Glynne’s music that takes over when you truly let yourself live in it. All music should be lived in, but Glynne’s music demands it. Crooning with a supportive urgency, Glynne lets you know you are not alone.
What has always fascinated me most about music is its effortless ability to intertwine with the fabric of your reality. The clouds dampen the skies, a chill cuts through your jacket, and as a song filters into your ears – the words, the instrumentation, the atmosphere – it’s all seamless. When the right song meets the right second, that familiar warmth and sensation of a stolen breath graces your day.
I spend my lifetime doing everything I can to stumble upon those serendipitous marriages of experience and musical expression. I soundtrack my life - as most of us often do - with the feelings of artists I may never meet but will come to know in inexplicable ways. As I float through the streets, my reality intertwines with Glynne and the life she infuses into her work. That’s why I think it is important to share those moments to the world. Because it’s that type of human connection with our environment and with our fellow man that saves us from the darkness of recent days.
