Tracks on Tap: August 15th

“Skrt on Me” by Calvin Harris ft. Nicki Minaj

There is a part of me that wishes there was a camera recording all of the dancing I did in my kitchen when I heard this song for the first time. Then I remember that there is no way that display of bodily movements was not embarrassing and I thank the universe that it was not recorded. The fact remains though that I have been in love with this song from the second I heard it and Calvin Harris is the soundtrack to my 2017 summer. Not. Even. Mad.

“Boys” by Charli XCX

As much as I would like to say I can’t relate to this song in the slightest, the fact is I can. Way too much. This song basically summarizes my entire high school Tumblr existence and the music video is an audiovisual exploration into my adolescent brain. So yes, I have been listening to this song on repeat for the past 2 weeks and I feel no shame. Much like 16-year-old me felt no shame for daydreaming about marrying Jared Leto. Wait, what?

“Everything is Alright” by Motion City Soundtrack

This song has always been my “keep it together” track, which – if you knew the kind of person I am – really comes in handy in my daily life. As a recent college graduate, I would be lying if I said I was completely un-phased by the uncertainty that is my life right now. It is okay though because at least Motion City Soundtrack gets me. So when it is 11PM on a Tuesday and I hang up the phone after having my father grill me about life for the thousandth time, it makes a world of difference to have JP by my side yelling unapologetically screaming that even though nothing feels okay, everything will be alright.
